Where to begin?

*this answer will make more sense if you listen to the second track of my most recent EP 'The Omega Point' - available now from my website.

How often do you wander?

I wander as often as I can. Non-directed walking around wherever you happen to find yourself is a pleasant way to expand your horizons. You never know what you'll find.

>How often do you wonder?

I wonder all the time. The thing I wondered about most recently was whether anyone I know has ever bought one of those 'chewable toothbrushes' that they sell in pub toilets. I myself never have.

>Are you going to be playing alone at the gig or with a band?

I'll be playing alone. I figured a solo gig would fit in better alongside a Max Tundra show. Not that I've ever seen him. I'm looking forward to it though cos I've been into him for ages.

>You have released a lot of EP's. Do you prefer the EP format to an album? What does EP stand for, I've always thought it was 'Easy Play' for some reason.

I wouldn't say I prefer it. I think you can get away with more within an EP. For example if you wanted to impose a stylistic constraint on yourself people will be more forgiving of such an experiment in the shorter time constraints of an EP. Or if you wanted to do some sort of 'concept' thing. I'm generally in favour of records being short. This despite my being about to release an album which is just over an hour long.

I think EPs might be the future. In internet-centric times I think having a steady trickle of new material in small doses from acts you like might be the way to go. Rather than waiting two years for an album which is not all good, then feeling a little cheated.

I've got plans to do another album as soon as possible and to have it only be ten songs. Maybe I won't do any more albums after that. I don't know.

I believe 'EP' stands for 'Extended Play' but that's boring. I think it should stand for 'Excellent Pagan'.

>How many times have you played in Clwb Ifor Bach? Do you prefer upstairs or downstairs? N.B This gig is upstairs.

Once in 2006. Six times in 2007, Astonishingly I did not play any gigs in Clwb Ifor last year (except as a member of Silence at Sea). I have only just learned this information and am frankly appalled. I am grateful to Shape Functions for helping rectify this injustice.

I prefer upstairs. It's a better room with better sound. Downstairs has its charms, it's more inclusive cos you're on the same level as the crowd. However I prefer to take my rightful place elevated above the masses.

>I like the fact that you have a very well organised gigography on your website, not many bother with that type of thing. I'm quite into stats... Have you got any great stats you have worked out using your gigography? I truly hope so.

I'm glad some people actually look at it. It's something I started when I first made the website in 2001. At that point I'd only done three gigs and could remember the setlists for each one so I just wrote them under the gigography. Then I just carried on doing it, even once the gigs stretched into the hundreds. It's because I'm a complete gig. It does mean if people see me and don't catch the name of a song they like they can go and look it up.

In mid 2007 I did go through the list and work out which songs I'd played the most. I actually made a spreadsheet (I was bored in work). The winner was 'The Memorial Hall' which 58 plays. I think 'The Gentlemen's Game' was second. Then 'Repetition 2', 'Our New Hospital Sucks', 'Knight - King 4' and 'Perfection or a Simple Life'. Not sure exactly of the order but that was definitely the top 6.

The venue I've played the most is the Coopers Arms in Aberystwyth. The city/town I've played the most is London. I ended pretty much every gig from 2006 onwards by playing 'The Gentlemen's Game'. I have recently stopped doing so. This is all very exciting isn't it?

I've not done an update since. If anyone fancies doing it for me they can have a free badge.

Thanks Shape
